Money Saving Strategies

Author: fanman, 09 30th, 2008

Let’s face it.  It doesn’t matter which politician is pointing his finger or at whom he is pointing it.  Nor does it matter what creative lingo the financial analysts use.  At the end of the day, our country is still facing a serious financial crisis.  What does this mean to the ordinary United States citizen?  It means that we have to be economic magicians and make our dollars stretch as far as possible.

One of the obvious money saving strategies is to cut household costs wherever possible.  You’ve probably already thought of the obvious ones like turning down the thermostat and the hot water heater, not to mention changing out the light bulbs for more energy efficient, environmentally friendly ones.  But have you considered replacing your existing light fixture with a ceiling fan and light kit?

Most people think that ceiling fans are only used during the hot summer months, when, in fact, they have been proven to be very effective at cutting heating costs in the winter.  How does this work?  Well, as we all know, heat rises and that is where it usually stays - lost at the ceiling.  However, a ceiling fan that is properly set to blow that warm, rising air back down to the ground can help you “recycle” that warm air allowing you to cut your heating costs.

It would be nice, of course, if you could afford to install a ceiling fan in every room; however, most people start with the bedrooms since they are usually the hardest rooms to heat.  Just be sure to shop the Internet before purchasing a plain, ordinary fan because there is a wide variety of afforable children’s ceiling fans as well as other decorative ceiling fans available to match most of the popular bedding designs sold today.

Not Your Average Disney Princess

One of the most well known female figures in the Disney arsenal remains the fairy in “Peter Pan,” Tinkerbell. Aside from being a fairy, she is quite different from the other Disney Princesses. For example, Tinkerbell is often quite stubborn and jealous. She does not have a perfect and porcelain veneer. At the same time, she’s opinionated and strong as well as loyal. She makes for an interesting role model to young girls, because she actually displays human faults.

Her various adaptations in film have played up different characteristics. Perhaps best known is the Julia Roberts live action version in “Hook.” Roberts played her as a kind of trickster but still extremely lovable.

By virtue of her continued popularity and intrigue, Tinkerbell has become one of the most iconic figures for Disney. Her face can be found on everything from tee shirts to rings to bed sheets. If your child loves Tink, consider making the lovable fairy a part of her room through a Tinkerbell ceiling fan.

Disney Kids Room Décor

If your little girl is obsessed with Disney cartoons, she is likely a fan of “The Little Mermaid.” Although it was originally released in 1989, the franchise has expanded into several sequels. Most recently, “The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning” was released in mid-2008. This has made Ariel and the entire cast of “The Little Mermaid” a favorite for several generations of little girls. If your girl can’t stop singing Under the Sea, you might be looking for a way to let her show her love of the series. The simple solution is with some creative room décor. Specifically, you can install a mermaid ceiling fan.

And best of all, the fan is functional and fun, so both you and her are happy. The fan will provide light and air conditioning, keeping her room well-lit and comfortable. And your daughter will be pleased with her room, because she will feel like it is truly personalized to her tastes.

Just the other day, my son was giving me a hard time about our collection of Wizard Of Oz memorabilia.  That was until I reminded him of his extensive collection of Thomas the Tank Engine items.  Not only does he have and unending supply of track and every available train, he also has a complete Thomas the Train bedroom including the bedding, border, curtains and Thomas the Tank Engine Ceiling Fan.  Needless to say, he soon realized that our collection wasn’t as absurd as he had initially thought.Thomas The Tank Engine Decor

Custom Pooh Fan completes Pooh Nursery

Winnie the Pooh NurseryMy sister was so excited when she found out  she was having a baby.  When I asked her about the nursery decor, there was absolutely no hesitation in her voice:  the baby was going to have a Winnie The Pooh Nursery.  Being her sister (and the baby’s Aunt), I wanted to find a truly unique gift for the nursery.  Something that no one else would have thought of.  I decided to purchase a Pooh ceiling fan for the room.  Boy, am I ever glad that I did!!  Not only does it match the rooms decor perfectly, my new niece just loves to lay in the crib and watch it turn around.

Strawberry Shortcake Fan - SWEET!!

Author: fanman, 09 01st, 2008

Strawberry Shortcake decorMy neighbor has been talking about decorating her daughter’s bedroom for the past month.  So, now that it is finally complete, she invited me over to see it.  I will agree the transformation from a guest/junk room to an absolutely adorable little girl’s Strawberry Shortcake bedroom is a HUGE success!  I think what really made the room complete was her attention to details.  This sweet character appears in all the right places - even on the Strawberry Shortcake ceiling fan allowing her to achieve that pulled together look that usually only highly paid designers achieve.  What a lucky little girl!  I must say - the inner child in me was extremely jealous.
